Life throws tough things our way and sometimes they get us down and discouraged. Without getting too deep and personal, I have battled with fear and anxiety since a long time ago.

However, I began consciously putting in some effort to reduce the fear recently and so far… I’m proud of my progress. With that being said, I would like to share some things that have worked for me — emphasis on ME

Face the Issue

I remember when deciding to get onto this journey, I’d give myself pep talks and say, “Okay girl, you’ve ran away and this is not going anywhere. You will have to face it. Whatever happens, happens!”

And then I’d jump into it. Sometimes it hurt to face it but more often than not, I have always come out of it stronger and better. It’s also important that I realised that I may have to allow some issues to play out as they’re out of my control

Write or Talk

I cannot stress how important it is to have an outlet for whatever is going on inside. I write down what I’m going through and then after, feel lighter. I am lucky I have some trusted people I can vent to and that allows me to gain perspective and solutions come about.

Relaxation

By relaxation, I mean meditation and music. I also mean literally lying down on my back and closing my eyes. This always works wonders and I end up with more courage to face the scary thing!

Physical Exercises

Finally, moving my body and making it stronger allows me to feel so much better. I enjoy walking, yoga and pilates. There is something about noticing my body getting stronger that makes me realise my mentality can also grow stronger. It’s that concept of one thing or lesson applying to many other areas of your life.

We are human and fear is part of life. There are times when the anxiety is too big for my coping mechanisms and I feel like the ground should open up already. But there are the good days, which I always look forward to.
